i spent ages fitting new headshok bearings to my c'dale and the job would have been so much easier with a bike stand so go ahead and give me some recommendations

I have one of the cheap Minoura DS30 stands (lifts the rear wheel off the ground). It lets you set the gears up and wash it with minimal fuss, but it's no workstand substitute.

if you want one for long keeps check out ,kestrel engineering, and look at repair stands .
NOT CHEAP but will last your life time . they are what most shops use
