My dad just said he needed one after the tesco one he had broke ; no surprises there then!

I had one a while back but ebayed it as didn't really use it, think it was decent VDO maybe?

Thinking £30-40 ish?

Thanks

Probably get a Cateye Enduro cordless for that? I've had one for 5 years, does what it says on the tin, can't fault it, changed the battery once but you can re-input your recorded total mileage.

Might be worth considering a little gps thinger like the Edge 20 or a second hand Edge 200?

Bit extra on the cost might be worth the extra functionality. I was looking for a bike computer to keep an eye on average speed on long rides, then realised I could get an Edge 200 for about £30 more than I had in mind spending on a cateye.

And I'm very glad I did. Keeping an eye on average speed is a great way of keeping on track for completing a long ride you've planned, but so is being given a little chirrup warning that you've taken a wrong turn and you're about to start hammering down into the wrong valley!

Hmm edge 20 looks decent

Assume it tells u info realtime and u don't need to plug into of all the time?

What's battery life like if it's gps?

Battery life is the main drawback - quoted as 8 hours. If it's something you/he wants to leave on the bike and watch the miles tick over as the months and years go by, go for a traditional computer.

All info is real time, it gives you speed, distance, time etc exactly as you'd find on other computers, but uses GPS data to work out distance, rather than counting the number of times the front wheel goes round.
