In true new years fashion I want to change my bike for commuting in the new year.
Currently ride a borrowed 2010 Specialised Allez, as its borrowed its pretty big, 61cm and over 12kg, a 58cm would be spot on for me. Something lighter would also be nice.
My commute is 14 miles each way, about 3 miles of this is on a rough cycle path, the 25c tyres don't quite give enough comfort on this. There's about 300feet of climbing going to work and over 1000ft going home in a lot of traffic. Sometimes i take a long way home for extra miles/climbing so something thats more road biased than CX would be good.
*Probably be cycle to work scheme, so 1k limit.
*Preferably with a decent BB, i've had PF30 on a previous bike and it drove me nuts. But this was a Specialised stump FSR so maybe it just can't take the dirt.
*Disc brakes
*Mud guard mounts would be nice, but not essential - Not bothered with rack mounts.
*Lighter that previous bike.
* Compact
Currently looking at the following...
PlanetX London Road
Giant Defy Disc
Specialised Diverge
Cannondale Synapse
Charge Plug
Genesis CDA 10/20
GT Grade
Anything else I should be looking at?
Thanks, and happy new year.
Mango Point AR, Shimano 105 build, £750
I'd post a link but something on this page keeps crashing my browser
From your list of requirements I would suggest Whichever model of "Arkose" from Evans fits your budget best, I know two people who have had them recently and both seem very happy, or the Grade from your list...
Not a London Road (speaking as a London Road owner) I like the bike, but service and quality seem to be slipping lately, and you want a solid bike, with some reliable backup... Not PX territory IMO.
Liking the look of both those, Mango especially. Thanks both. 🙂
@shermer - strange - holiday gremlins, that page won't load on my ipad (only in readsr view no pics), might be an Apple related problem of course

Yep, I was using an iPod Touch. Works fine on my laptop 🙂
Bump for any other options.
