[#3461520]

I'm after a new stem for my Giant Trance X build.

I like the look of the AM stems eg Sunline V1 etc

What would you guys recommend?

Budget is upto £80.

Thanks

Havent used one (yet) but it's on my (very) short list.

I've got a brand new 70mm Truvativ AKA stem that I just took off my new bike. I always run a 50mm stem so I've no use for it - interested?

Yep, black with white detailing - as pictured here:

I was thinking £15 posted? I won't be able to send it til Monday though as it's at my work in London.

A stem isn't just for Christmas.

Every year, hundreds of unwanted stems are discarded in garages just because the owner has lot interest and has gone for something lighter / more shiny.

Don't do it.

Actually, I've gone for something heavier and definitely less shiny, but I'm stuck in my ways! 🙂

You can't really go wrong with Hope.

I've got a Straitline Wedge stem on my AM bike, it's extremely stiff but at 250g it's overkill for a Trace I think... Are there any offers on Thompson stems around?

Race Face Evolve just got a 9 out of 10 in an MBR review. It's only £40 so you could always go for the more glamourous older brother the Turbine.

I have a V1 and it's ace, if angular and burly.

If you want something more 'elegant' then Easton Haven for sure.

What does an £80 stem get you over a £30 one?

Point one make a lovely stem. Raceface ride XC for me, fairly light and only £24. Not really any need to spend more, a stem is a stem IMO.

the default is thomson.

easton took the thomson, polished the life out of it and shed some weight, and produced the sexiest stem on the market (shame about the contrasting faceplate).

the new top of the range raceface and syncros are also nice, and the V1 if you like the squarer look. FWIW I have thomson on both my bikes, but covet the easton (just wish it had a matching face plate!).

EDIT; same Q asked with more pics and opinions here (no doubt where I saw the RF and syncros, tho the RF looks like a Haven copy)
