I've just switched from NN's to Conti Rubber Queens 2.2
More grip , less speed.

I like Nevegals meself. (their 2.1 is the size of a Maxxis 2.35 so still qualifies ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Hey northwind.
Got the 2.1,s on the trance and love them.
I am tempted to put a new pair on the HT.
Got 2.1 high rollers on it at the mo and there skinner than a skinny thing. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes Rob, BC's handmade in Germany flavour . Running them tubeless although they are not the UST's. Saving about 250gram per tyre.
Tried them on a riding buddie's recommendation and very impressed.
Like I said, not as fast as NN's but a lot more sure footed.
I will recommend them for anything except racing.
The mate who recommended them used NN's before and a Nevagal/Bluegroove combo( which he likes a lot), but the Rubber Queens have transformed his riding: he is a lot more confident on the downhills now.
Oh, have to add, they are anything but skinny, loads of volume! Hard to believe it is only 2.2

Ardent 2.25s are rubbish in the wet imo, 2.4s a bit better but they slide without re-gaining control, don't handle being pushed sideways well particularly on the front. Purgatory 2.2s are much better for mixed loose / wet and ok on hardpack, they slide predictably and clear fairly well for a non-mud tyre, my fave of this winter anyway.
Conti BC is awesome stuff too, new mountain king 2.2 may be good but not had a chance to try them out yet. 2.2 rubber queens are another all-rounder fave but they're big, more like a 2.4.

Specialized Purgatory's been using them for a few years there really good and cheep. You can even get a 90 day money back thing from Specialized if you don't like them.

I wasn't that convinced by the rubber queens myself. Pretty fantastic grip in a straight line on rocks etc, and nice big volume (though I found despite people getting excited about the size, they actually sized up almost spot on claimed). But surprisingly poor in the damp despite those big knobbles, and a bit lacking in corner grip. TBH they rolled like a smaller tyre and gripped like a smaller tyre.

I went back to my Nevegals in the end, they're a little slower but much more consistent IMO.

Michelin Wild Grip'r.

However, now tempted by some Rampages (or CG AC AM) after a winter running Trailrakers that has reawakened my liking of Panaracers (ran Smoke/Dart and Dusters back in the day).
