Looking for a big new front tyre for my Titus titanium hardtail.
It has a 140mm non-boost Pike fork on it - so I think the biggest I can go is a 2.6 or 2.8. I'm aware that a lot of tyres marketed that way are actually a bit smaller. I already have a 2.4" Hans Dampf on the front I am going to put on the back (my back tyre is worn out), so want something bigger. The wheels are Easton Arc 27, so a 27mm rim.

I'm looking to get something relatively tough and high volume, that I can plow into things without worrying. Not a full on DH tyre as it is a trail bike after all.

My initial thoughts would be a a Maxxis Minion. Anything else worth looking at?

Not sure if it will fit and or if you can get hold of a 2.6 as I’ve struggled to source one but the DHF is hard to beat as an all rounder (I’m running the 2.5)

On average it’s probably the most recommended tyre on the forum

Yes, it seems hard to find 29x2.6 tyres in stock.
Specialized have some on sale, but it seems their 2.6 is actually a 2.4

Will have a look at Bontrager though, had good experiences with their tyres in the past

2.6 Mary Addix soft is a beast of a tyre, absolute animal, I love it.

(By eye) a 2.6 butcher comes up a touch larger than the old Hans dampf and compares favourably. I’d recommend one.

I have a 2.6 Minion, really pleased with it but I'm fairly easily pleased. Happy to let you have a try.

I was running a Minion 2.6 up front, DHR2 2.6 out back and that was pretty much perfect. The DHR2 in EXO+. However I just swapped to a 2.5 Assegai up front and thats good lots of grip which is nice but its a super soft tyre so I don't know how long that grip would last. But I would be happy with either combo.

I've been impressed with Teravail, fairly new in the UK. They have 29 x 2.6 and 2.8 models.

Hmm, the issue seems to be finding a 2.9x2.6 tyre, that actually is bigger than 2.4", in stock and not north of £50!

Depends on what kind of riding you do but I'm not sure I'd want light tyres at that size.

This all ended up getting too stressful looking at different compounds and sizes and websites and blah blah blah so I ordered that WTB Trail Boss. Hopefully doesn't detonate into death at the first sign of a piece of gravel!!!!
