With a new, expensive (for me) bike on the horizon I have been motivated to get some bike insurance sorted. I can add to contents insurance I think, but I'm interested to hear who else people gave used. Were they good, was the price reasonable, any issues if you've had to claim, etc? I have a gold sold secure ground anchor and chain, which I understand is a basic prerequisite.

Did your specialised bike insurance give you other cover? For instance, public liability or any sort of personal accident cover?

If I join British Cycling they say that I could get discounted rates from Cycle uardd. Does the discount cover the cost of membership, or am I better looking else where?

Any info appreciated.

I have mine with my contents insurance at little extra cost ..all that was required was for it to be locked away ..

Try your home contents insurance first ..

I second Pedal Cover. Actual nice humans to talk to, reduced my premium each year for the last couple of years and sent me a jersey to thank me for my business and recommendation.

I reviewed this a while back, for me, it turned out that our existing buildings & contents insurance with Liverpool & Victoria was the cheaper option than a specific policy for my bikes.

Word of warning about Pedal Plan. They wont insure me as I'm close to a river. This is despite living on the 4th floor, and they even acknowledged that it's impossible I'd get flooded, but it was still a decline.

Another vote for Pedalcover. Lovely people to deal with and they sorted out a (buildings and contents)  policy that gave me much better cover for my bikes than my previous (Direct Line) policy for a fair chunk less money. Plus they sent me a nice cycling top at Christmas too 🙂

Ps: check out all the fine details of cover such as in shed / garage / away from home, grade of door locks required - things like that can be overlooked and could cause a non pay out in the event of a claim.
