Morning all,
The rebound adjust on my '09 Revs has stopped working (turning), I think it may have seized.
Does anyone know if this is a common issue? Is it something that I can free up myself with a quick squirt of WD40 or will the internals need servicing/replacing?
I had the same thing on my 2010 Revelations. I managed to free the adjuster external adjuster by cleaning all the muck out of it and squirting GT85 into the the area where the Allen key part goes. This appeared to work short term but I later stripped the forks when the problem re occurred.
I found that the damper needle had bonded itself to the seat. Due to another issue with the forks I had been running the rebound on its lightest setting and I am not sure if this contributed to the problem. I needed the damper rod assembly replaced. Luckily they were still under warranty and turned around very quickly by SRAM Tech. I am just about to go and pick them up from my LBS.
LoCo Tuning is a good source of parts and advice and pointed me in the right direction.
Thanks Matt, try and clean the threads inside the damper rod (through the bottom bolt) also it might be that dirt has got under the adjuster knob.
The adjuster barrel that moves inside the damper rod can also get stuck at either end of the adjustment (full fast/full slow) if this is the case see if you can free it off.
The rebound damper unit is sealed with the adjuster rod being punched shut so if it is fubbared you'll need a full new assembly.
Ok guys, I'll get at them with the lube and see if I can free it up, if not I might be sending them your way LoCo!
Cheers!
Just an update,
I had no luck freeing it up with the forks on the bike so I took them off and stripped them down.
With the rebound damper out I applied some WD40 to both ends of the adjuster barrel and left it to soak, no movement.
I put the adjuster knob back into the barrel and gave it a couple of sharp taps with a mallet, still no movement.
Ended up figuring it's knackered anyway so a quick dose of heat from the hot air stripper won't do any harm (on the low heat setting), lo and behold it freed it all up!
So if anyone else out there is struggling hopefully this may help before you shell out for a new assembly.
