servicing my reba forks. have let out the air, undone nuts at bottom, hit them with rubber mallet, let all oil out. the lowers slide down a long way but won't come off the ends.
what next?
What happened when you hit them with the rubber mallet? You need to loosen the nuts, but not completely remove them to protect the ends of the shafts, then give them a whack. They should release from the lowers. I sometimes use a bit of wood on top of the nuts just to protect them further.
You know you've whacked them free when you can press the shafts with your thumb and they start to disappear inside the lowers. At this point you can take the nuts off and the lowers should come off OK.
The seals do hold onto the stanchions quite well, so you still need to give them a decent pull.
yes, they moved when i hit them with the nuts on. i can press the air side shaft in with my thumb and it goes into the lower. on the other side i hit the nut then took it out.
the lowers just seem to hit an obstacle when i pull at them?!?!
What about the damper side? Is that also free from the end of the lowers?
I haven't done my Reba's for a while, but seem to remember one leg being a fair bit harder to whack free.
How far do the legs move before stopping? Still within the limit of the fork travel? Or is there a lot of stanchion showing before they stop?
ok, all done. wasn't hitting the damper side hard enough. thanks.
Wooooo! I actually helped someone with a mechanical bike related issue!
