Currently running a 2008 reba sl 29er and it is as flexy as a flexy thing. Having a look around ebay for some new forks I came across some lowers from a 2009 reba29er with 20mm maxle for £60 posted from the states. I have bought them and am waiting for delivery so I can make a bit of a hybrid fork up.

Question is:
1. will it be a straight swap out or will I need any new/modified bits to fit them onto my uppers?
2. Are the 29er uppers the same as the 26er rebas/pikes/revs or does the crown have a different offset?

Anyone know?
I'll update when I have them for anyone else interested in this.

For 1, I think it's a straight swap. IIRC the only difference between 08 and 09 lowers was the introduction of the power bulge on 09

I have a few 08's and an 09.

I'll have a look and measure up tomorrow if I get time.

I really can't believe that a properly adjusted QR is noticeably more flexible than a maxle, not when you take into account the amount of flex in a tyre running about 30 PSI.

I think the power bulge will make a noticeable difference.

My old Toras didn't seem to have much sideways flex but a lot of flex from back to front whereas my new Rebas, although still QR, have absolutely zero flex in any direction.

The new lowers arrived today and they fit but there are a couple of points to note.
1. 20mm bolt through has same overall top to axle length but the point where they bolt to the spring & damper rods is about 20mm shorter, have had to put travel reducer spacer on to limit it to 100mm travel and the damper cartridge is slightly too long so it bottoms out with about 5mm still to go.
2. 20mm lowers are post mount so need a new adaptor to run 203mm rotor, fitted spare 160mm rotor for now.

They are noticably stiffer than the QR lowers, whether this is due to new bushes or not I don't know but they are loads better. It's a conversion well worth doing if you can pick the lowers up for £60 posted.
