Following on from my thread here, the clunk on my m8's bike is coming from the RockShox Reba RL forks. There brand new, and this isn't a top out clunk (returning up), they make a clunk and other noises when you rock the bike on the front brake (or brake when riding). It's not bushing IMO, as there no movement between the stanchion and the lowers (using stick your finger inbetween test). It looks to rock down about 5mm and clunk.
Anyone come across this?.. were taking it back to the shop sunday, but am at a loss as to why it would do this
Headset noise transmitting down the fork...
Nahh, as per the other thread link, I checked the headset & even tweaked it tight just to make sure.
I have the same thing. Forks bought in May, hardly ridden since due to new baby. It is definitely the forks, at first I thought headset, then checked the disc but they were fine.
I would guess wheel bearings - You mentioned on the other thread but did you check it out?
Yep took at look at the bearings too, couldn't feel (side to side) any play in them
Are they u-turn forks ? Do they clunk if the travel is changed ?
U-turn RockShox used to have an issue due to play in the plastic helix. Not sure what they fit these days.
They can do that if the travel reducing spacer is fited on the wrong side of the top out bumper
Taka, nope, std RL's.
Dvatcmark, known issue then? How'd you find out about it, any link to similar reports? (Or places to look)
I know about it because I did it by accident once. It's easy to do too and the forks work fine but just clunk when they top out.
If you look in the manual at the exploded diagram you'll see what I'm on about
This manual doesn't make it clear (to me) as to how to fit a travel adjust under the bump stop, as surely it would sit onto of the floating seal?
Ahem, small bump as Loco is browsing the forum... not a paging post, oh no...
Could be a number of things, if they're new return them for warranty inspection, as if somethings broken it'll just get replaced if you take them apart you risk causing issues with any warranty claim (possibly) ๐
