Hi All,

I've got a Lapierre TR 529 and the rear wheel has developed something weird. The rear wheel is running on a Formula axle, when its all bolted up with the wheel on there seems to be a bit of play in the wheel. In that if I pull the wheel up with my hand and push it down the wheel moves ever so slightly.

The axle is closed and tightened properly. Guessing the problem is with the axle or the internals of the hub. I hope I haven't done something to the fixing in the dropouts but I doubt it as the force should clamp the wheel?

Any ideas guys ?

Cheers

Dan

Bearing wear?

Do they feel at all rough if you hold the able and spin it in your hand?

Hi wwaswas - Yeah they do feel a bit 'scratchy' I guess its the bearings that have gone. Was worried that it was something more serious.

I'll take it to my LBS and get them to take a look -

Cheers

If the hub has play in the bearings or worn bearings then you'd notice the wheel would have side-to-side play. You mention you can pull it up and down? A hub would have to be completely knackered for it to have vertical play.
It sounds more like you have a worn/loose pivot or shock eyelet and its causing some vertical movement/play.

Hi oddjob..

Yeah if I grab the rear wheel and pull upwards I can feel a small amount of movement just like the qr isnt bolted up properly but it definately is. No idea what is going on maybe the axle is bent or something just feels like the wheel isn't bolted up properly.
