Doing a bit of gear tuning last night and noticed that my back wheel doesn't freewheel very well.
Bearings seem smooth off the bike, brake caliper taken off to check but still the same. Freehub sounds ok too..
It's a Hope Pro3 AM4 wheel.
Any tips on what to check?
take it out, hold onto the ends and spin it... what happens ?
loosen the QR, does it happen ?
Sounds like you're missing a spacer basically compressing the rear triangle onto the hubs.
Thanks mate. It did seem a little tight off the bike too. Bearings felt smooth tho. Do the freehub's need a clean and re-grease from time to time?
If you've had it in bits then maybe the main spacer but it's not likely (it'd jam the wheel up really badly). TBH Hopes aren't the fastest spinning at the best of times (it's not normally an issue) and they're poorly sealed so first thing would just be to pull it apart, check individual bearings, clean out any dirt etc.
Not taken it apart, ever. Will give all the bearings a once over later
