Hi all,
I have a Genesis Longitude 2016 and took it to Spain for some bikepacking. The baggage handlers in Alicante must have stacked it right at the bottom of the luggage (it was boxed in a cardboard bike box) - I think the box compressed and it drove so much weight into the rear wheel that it has split the rim in several places.
The carrier wants it signed off and a replacement costed by a "professional" but the truth is the rear hub was shot through anyway so was probably going to have to replace it or have it rebuilt without the destroyed rim, and can't really be bothered with the hassle of dealing with the carrier for something they'll probably just deny anyway.
On the spec sheet it lists the hubs as:
Hubs: KT Sealed Cartridge (110x15mm) / Joytech RCC 6-Bolt (135x9mm QR)
The frame takes either 29" or 650b+ but I'd probably stick with the latter. As far as wheels go - it's pretty confusing what I need. Any suggestions? -- 110x15mm is 'boosted' at the front - the rear is 135mm which is a standard size? What does the 9mm relate to? QR means quick release right?
I see Alpkit do wheelsets for around 160-260 quid - are they any good? I value strength more than weight so not looking for anything pricey but don't want it to collapse after it's first outing either.
Many thanks
FM
135x9 QR is bog standard quick release, not to be confused with any of the 'bolt-through' options or the new 141x9 QR boost.
Can't comment on the alpkit wheels but if you only need a rear, the wheel below is very good value. I have the 26" version on my hack/touring bike and it's been faultless.

I have the alpkit wheels on my 2016 longitude. They work fine but are a bit heavy. When I ordered mine I had to do a special request to get a boost front wheel and 135 qr rear as they are listed as boost or non boost sets. I've just picked up some new hubs as I want to try a 40mm rim and loose some weight. This will probably mean the alpkit set will be for sale soon.
Yes - same mix as on one of my bikes:
"BOOST" in the front.
Standard Quick Release in the back. Same call it 135x10 , others 135x9 (but it's the SAME. I Think 10 mm is the bore in the frame and 9 mm roughly the axle?)
Not familiar at all with your wheels - I ordered for "BOOST" front and "QR" back my wheels at:
https://www.actionsports.de/en/wheels/custom-wheels/mtb-disc-29/
DT Swiss 370 hubs, Fun Works Rims with 25 mm internal bead width. Front was around 80 Euros, back around 115 Euros.
‘On the spec sheet it lists the hubs as:

that’s a strange way of spelling ‘Chris king F&R’😜
andreasrhoen, those are 29er wheels not 650b+.
OP To clear up what you need its a Boost front wheel (110x15mm) and standard 135mm QR rear.
Have a look on JRA website (justridingalaong). Really good value wheels using Bitex Hubs. I’ve used with a WTB Asymm i35 rim. Really good value and reliable so far. 9 months riding XC to BPW to Bikepacking and still true.
Oh, and a hell of a lot lighter than Alpkit wheel it replaced
