So just back from another day in the Lakes and yet another tyre disaster..
2 weeks ago High roller 2 exo terra side wall hole ..wouldnt seal tube needed
3 weeks ago Differnt High roller 2 exo terra 3c side slice ,tube needed wouldnt seal
Today new Maxxis minion SS exo terra slice ,lucky i had something to pack the tyre out as this wasnt sealing .. all on the rear all running close to 35psi ..
Am I just unlucky or clumsy or just poor tyres choices
Point me in the right direction for a fast rolling rear that wont wimp out at the first sign of rocks please .. Todays lucky escape

There's your problem. It's rough on tyres.
Go double down? I hesitate putting an exo on the front never mind rear but that's just me.
An aggressor 2.3 dd is a good tyre the 2.5 wt is even better depends on your rim width
EXO is your problem.
Spesh slaughter grid rear, wicked tyre, tough as old boots.
Tyre pressure seems too high at 35psi. I run my rear at 20psi
At 35psi your sidewalls will be hard and easier to cut.
as i live here most of my riding is in the lakes. exo are ok on the front but i've given up on them on the rear. spesh grid's are no better. had a year of running spesh dh casings and no flats, raced with a exo minion in grizedale a few weeks ago and flatted in a stage which reminded me why i went to the dh tyres. trying a michelin wild rockr at the moment as a middle ground and seems ok so far.
must have felt horrible at 35psi, i usually run about 27/28
I feel your pain. I thought my HR II Exo was tough enough till I started riding the lakes regularly. Killed that, so tried a Conti Der Kaiser on the rear. Bit heavier, but not that draggy and tough as nails so far!
Bontrager SE5 is my favoruite rear tyre going, beefier than an exo casing but not super heavy.
Tread is brilliant in anything dry and good in mud, the slightly hard compound makes it roll well and not get squirmy, but doesn't like wet roots too much. Also great on the front in the dry.
I live/ride in the Lakes and feel your pain. Schwalbe supergravity tyres are a proper step up from Exo and Grid casing, WTB TCS tough casings are another step up again (lightweight dual ply). If those don't work for you read on:
Having torn all of these in short order I now run Huck Norris inserts, which are fantastic as all my tires tear at the bead when pinching. With the inserts I can run an EXO on the front (or Conti Apex) and Supergravity/TCS Tough on the back without an issue, at comfortable tire pressures.
