Can the STW team educate me on the different Monarch shocks please?
I have a dead Monarch on the Tallboy and am looking for a replacement and can't tell the difference between the RT3, the RL or the others.
TF Tuned can't get the parts to rebuild this one and am suggesting a Fox. I would prefer to stick to the Monarch range.
I'm looking for one with no whistles or bells (no remotes or blow-off chambers), it must be light and fit a 2010 Tallboy.

the RL has a basic rebound damper like the RT and XX. The R and the RT3 have a decent rebound damper, while the RT3 has a more advanced compression damper plus the 3 threshold settings. RT3 is the one to have. I'm having retune the RT3 for me as it comly comes as an MM tune in aftermarket form.
Thanks P, that makes sense, though I still have no idea what the letters actually stand for.....
Unless you have a good reason to it's best to match the tune of the original shock that came with your bike, as above MM is the aftermarket tune. Can be a very long wait for other tunes to be imported 🙁
Rl - rebound/lockout
Rt - rebound/threshold
The Monarch R has no lockout.
On one have some Monarch deals on at the moment if the size fits. They also have some Cane Creeks DB airs in the sale
TFT are showing out of stock for the Monarch shox hence why they are offering Fox although I cant see the correct size shock from Fox. 165x38 or am I wrong there?
Chainreaction have the Monarch RT3 in stock at the right size .
