I have just pulled a bike out of the shed that's been there for about 6months (i've been injured) and the rear shock still has pressure but when you compress it fluid comes out. It has a taste, but is fairly clear and I was thinking its most likey perished seals and condensation build up in the air can!?

Its a fox RP23.

Any thoughts? What's the best way of diagnosing, I am self isolating so can't send off for servicing yet, but wanted to self diagnose if I can. I have a seals spare kit I can use, but don't want to use it in vain....

Any Advice welcome

It could be that the small amount of lubricating oil that sits in the air can has pooled towards the seals ( if the bike was stood/hung in way to allow that) and was behind the seal. When you compressed it squeezed out or the seals have gone with been sat so long. If the rebound is still working and it isn’t losing pressure I would ride it before doing anything. What I wouldn’t be doing is tasting it!!.

But I always taste my bike's fluids.....

Thanks for the feedback, suspension is still a dark art as far as I'm concerned. The shock was stored vertically, so this makes sense. I'll re-pressurise and take it for a quick spin to see how it feels. Seals are well over a year old now so may have perished a bit.

Fingers crossed nothing too serious.

Thanks again.
