After years of telling everyone there is no need to have anything other than a hardtail I have got myself a full sus to take on the Mega later this year, only problem is I obviously have a lack of knowledge of rear shocks...
The spring seems a little soft so have been trying to find a stiffer replacement but can't find any tables with guidelines to start from (like forks have as standard pretty much).
I'm 6'1", and about 14 stone and the shock is a Fox DHX 5 with a 500 x 2.35 spring. Should that be enough or should I swap it for a stiffer spring (and what size...600, 750, 800?!)?
Cheers if you can help!
P.S. anyone know where I can get one cheap, the frame was second hand so not really wanting to spend a fortune on a spare spring!
try this, should give you the correct spring weight.

I'm using a 550 x 2.75 on my DHX5/ spesh SX and weigh in at 15.5 , I haven't bottomed it out yet so I must not be trying hard enough ๐ณ
Thanks guys, not sure if it's just because I'm used to having no travel whatsoever on the back but it seems a bit soft for me. Found this that may suggest a slightly stiffer one needed...
