I've stripped a thread on my rear mech hanger and the mech no longer fits. Does anyone know if it's possible to retap the thread? Is there a tool available that will do it?
Thanks
Andy
Get a new hanger and don't hang off your allen key this time.
If it's not a replaceable one then you can probably get a helicoil and don't hang off your allen key this time.
If the thread has stripped simply running a tap thru it won't really help as there is nothing left to create a thread.
If the mech hanger is not replaceable then an engineering shop / frame builders will be able to make an insert to fit to recreate the thread or build it up wilth weld and retap the thread
I dont know if a helicoil is available in that size but if so that is the best option
Failing that, some really cheap mechs have a shim that bolts through from the other side - bit likethe rear part of a chainring bolt. Drill the knackered thread out slightly and it'll fit. Did this on a bike years ago that didn't have a replaceable hanger. Worked fine for years.
OK thanks for the tips. It is replaceable but I can't find anywhere that sells them.

BETD Frame savers. £8
i used these on my old super 8 worked perfectly.
hope that helps
OOO, thanks for the BETD website link. They sell a replacement hanger that looks just like mine. I'll buy the hanger and a frame saver just in case it doesn't fit.
Thanks for all the help.
