i've never done SS before and im trying it on the cheap - so is it easy to use a rear mech as a tensioner?
do you just leave it hooked up to the shifter, cable and all, and just remember not to shift gear?

if you take an old inner and insert it through the mech cable stop so that the nipple stops in the stop and the wire runs through the clamp you can fix the pantagraph in the right position by clamping the wire at a fixed length and trim off the spare. Use the Hi and Lo stops too if you like.

On my work bike i took the cable and shifter off and screwed the stops in until its in the right position chainline wise, the shorten the chain so the rear mech is under tension all the time
