I've got a Maxle on the rear (12x150)
It's recessed in around the middle section.
I've heard to many horror stories and at minimum snapped axles on pro 2's.
The bike is a DH bike so I want something more trustworthy.
What other options are out there?
I presume I still need something with an expanding wedge so the axle is tight in the frame.
Help much appreciated.
Sounds like you have the same one as me which is the older type. Newer maxles are the same diameter all the way along so you could just buy a newer type.

Betd do bolt through axles that fit. Think they're advertised as intense, but have the same thread pitch as maxles
Does the BETD one allow the axle to be clamped radially?
As in how do they over come the expanding wedge design of the Maxle.
