Hi. Sorry for my English, i hope, that you understand me )
I will travel next summer with Alfine 8 hub. But it can broke and I will be in 100 kilometers from civilization. It's will be nightmare, right? When internal gear hub broke, it's just scroll, no no clutch.
So, my first idea was: always have a singlespeed rear hub and if Alfine broke, replace it. But changing hub in the field - bad idea. It's long and difficult.
But I was advised to put rear hub to the front wheel. And if Alfine broke, i just swap them ๐
Unfortunately, O.L.D. of rear hubs is about 130mm, but suspession forks offset is 100mm.
As a result, I need simple singlespeed hub with O.L.D = 100mm. I will have the gear and other stuff with me, and on hub i put something cap (plug).
What do you think about all of this?
Thank you )
What about a fixed cog that you attach to the disk mounts so you can flip the hub over if necessary? Just remove the rotor and flip it over, although you might need to remove the brake caliper which is easy enough.
If you want to put a rear hub up front you'd need to have a 135mm fork upfront (which do exist) but it seems a bit of an effort for the purposes of contingency.
Where are you riding?
It was my suggestion. You cannot run a fatbike tyre in the sort of suspension fork you listed on MTBR forum. As you posted in the fatbike forum I assumed you had 135 mm hub at the front.
Ok, i see my mistake. And can't edit first post ((
druidh, yes, i think, that suspension forks may have 135mm. Sorry to mislead. So, let's try another option.
AlasdairMc, nice, it's can work, thank you )
