Come to blow the cobwebs off my Zesty yesterday and go for a quick spin. Bike has not been used for maybe 6months and has been laid up.
The rear calliper appears to be stuck in the disc , so it can't rotate. There is no leverage in the lever either. Managed to get the wheel off but the pads won't move. Do I need to bleed the system? I'm crap at technical stuff so hope you get my drift..! Thanks in advance..
Calliper service required.......
The whole bike needs scraping due to lack of use, I'll pick it up for you.
Can you not squeeze the lever now the wheel is out to check the pistons move?
It maybe the fluid has expanded, in which case open the bleed in the lever until a few drops come out, then the pistons may retract.
Lever the pads apart with a screwdriver. If they retreat as they should, all is well. If neither of them budge, you have problems. If levering the right pad moves the left one (and vice versa) then you probably have too much fluid in the system. This happens, I think, because the brake fluid absorbs water over time.
Ideally you need to bleed the brake but a short term fix is to let a bit of oil out. There's a torx grub screw on the lever - release this and lever the pads at the same time. Oil should come out and the brake should behave itself.
Thanks for the replies so far. No when the wheel is off the bike the pads won't contract . I will try letting a little out.
