Is it possible to get a rear chain stay disc mount welded to a steel frame and who by?

You can get them put on aluminium frames too , I had one put on an early GT i-drive by Chris Marshall cycles in Keighley , most places that build custom frames should be able to do the job for you (around £60 at a guess). You'll need to factor a respray for the welded area at least.

Was that on the chain stay or seat stay?

had one done on my old steel sunn bike. Got it done at Roberts cycles in Croydon. Been fine. Chas Roberts is a well respected place to go, although I am sure other framebuilders will do this.

It went on the chain stay as there wasn't enough space on the seat stay without going +40mm on the rotor ,I had to go +20mm as it was.

many frames won't have space on the chainstay unless you go big.

any framebuilder should be able to do the work, if you're on a budget you can touch up the affected area only.

As in big frame or big rotor so the mount is further down the chain stay to give room for the caliper and larger rotor?

I meant latter, but both may work.

I did it but on a 57cm road bike-way more space.
