Just fitted a new xt rear derailleur. I've taken the bike for a test ride and it is shifting very smoothly.

However the chain is skipping when it's under pressure e.g. up hills...

Any ideas what I could have done wrong? What to check?

The chain rings are quite old but in fairly good nick - should these be prime suspects?

i fitted a new derailler and chain last week, as i had smashed the derailler, and it skipped under even slight power. x1 new rear cog and prob fixed, althought the front rings are sucking chain like billy'O, looks like new chain rings too.

Have you tried altering your B spring screw? (or whatever that screw is really called)

Assuming that the rear mech is brand new and you have indexed it correctly and set it up correctly ie High/low peramiters, did you replace the chain at the same time? no, replace the chain then, that will most likely be the problem. This might then impact on the front chain rings, but not necessarily.
