The last time I had anything to do with hubs no one had even dreamt about bolt though options so I'm a bit lost to be honest. The rear hub on 2018 Whyte 901 needs a bit of attention, actually its the free hub i think. I took the wheel out last night to top up the latex and whilst it was out I unscrewed a collar on the non drive side which allowed the cassette and axle to come out complete with pawls etc. The big bearing that remained with the cassette was as rough as guts. The smaller ones in the hub are fine.
So, any links to a dismantling guide plus what tools do i need to buy to change that bearing? A chain whip and a cassette lock ring tool for starters I'd imagine?
Its a SRAM 11 speed cassette, i think the hub is unbranded although i could be wrong.
Anyone?
If you can identify the hub and post a photo it would help, hub desigs vary quite a bit. You'll probably need some kind of bearing puller or punch to extract it from the freehub as well as the chain whip and lockring spanner
Its listed as an "Alloy, Double Sealed Cartridge Bearing Hub, 12mm X 148mm Boost Through Axle, 32 Hole"
So i imagine it'll be remove cassette, undo freehub with big allen key then either change bearing or replace free hub. Whytes owners manual has nothing to say on how the hubs work sadly.
Have you tried just pulling the free hub off the axle by hand? A lot of cartridge bearing hubs fit together under compression but you'll still need something to get the bearing out.
As mentioned, a photo would help a lot.
Can you identify it here?
