One day, I too wish to own a bike clean enough to sling over my shoulder whilst sporting a £200 Ted Baker blazer.

I like that.

To be honest, as a great lover of jackets and riding bicycles, I'm really not going to be declaring the bandwagon over-loaded with this sort of thing.

🙂

Who does the most overpriced shoes and socks to complete the look?

I like that too.
Will look nice with Rapha 3/4 city trousers.
We just can't win! Getting mocked for wearing Lycra , then not allowed to look smart 😉

That's easy. Quoc Pham for shoes.

Vulpine or Rapha for your socks.

Exactly. That video is literally unsurpassable. If you want a pair of cycling-specific shoes to go to an artisanal cheesemongers in, while having a strongman moustache and a bobble hat, there is no finer cobbler than Quoc Pham.

🙂

Is their logo ironic or just apt?

I assume city riding is completely void of all dirt, fly's, dirt etc to get this gear mucky?

If you're wearing nice clothes and not riding a bike, you're careful. So as not to spoil your clothes. Same goes if you're riding a bike in nice clothes. I can ride across Bristol in a 3-piece suit, shirt and tie with my hair combed and arrive looking perfectly presentable. Just the same as with walking.

🙂

The unique selling point of the Wizard appears to be
"The front, chest pocket lining can be pulled up out of the pocket to mimic a hanky for those smarter occasions, and folded back inside the jacket for a more casual, everyday look".

Well that's it then, got to have one.

Ooh smart shoes too. Sadly it seems you need the full hipster look to qualify.

You just leave them outside the bedroom door and your butler, batman or valet returns them to your dressing room clean and pressed.

I'm over 25 years old, I don't have a beard and I prefer to wear trousers that fit and socks with my shoes; so I'm obviously not the target demographic.

The cynic in me says 'bandwagon!'
The cyclist is me says, if this means cycling is breaking through to mass participation and acceptance and we will finally be allowed to ride in peace, then bring it on, all the way...

So many of my friends who've shown no interest in riding a bike at any point in the last 20+ years are now riding, albeit occasionally...

If brands like this think the bandwagon's worth jumping on then that's a good sign...

I'll keep my lycra on for now tho 🙂

The Ted Baker Bikegeo Long Sleeve Shirt is the perfect commuter option to take you from saddle to office in style. Designed with a range of considered cycling features, it is a functional shirt which breaks the conventions of typical commuter wear.

It just looks like any other shirt to me. Spurious, to put it mildly. Mind you, if your a marketeer looking at cycling at the moment, they'll look at the multiple wheel size thing (as just one of many many recent examples), and think to yourself 'Jesus! these idiots will swallow anything. Dig out all those shirts we can't shift, and label them up as cycling specific, and spout some crap about unique cycling-related features'

last time I was out buying trousers I saw that Levis had some with a little lycra to make them easier to ride in and a stupid reflective strip at the inside bottom of the trouser leg that showed up if you turned them up. Finally there was a little side pocket in the seam with a zip to prevent stuff falling out when riding

bandwagon indeed

Take a look in any Dutch town at the "cycling specific" garb of the everyday commuter.

It's different people doing the mocking though 🙂

I saw that Levis had some...

Sounds good to me. Not every bike ride is a Bike Ride.

I just need someone to make me affordable office-compatible shoes with SPD cleats.

Am I missing something regarding the Quoc Pham shoes? Some of them are meant to be used with just toe straps while some are cleat compatable. How are the toe strap ones cycling specific, They are just like any other pair of shoes!

I am probably missing something crucial aren't I?

Have you considered looking wistfully into the middle distance?

Have a crack, and see if your opinion changes.

I will park my bike outside the local spar and stare wistfully into the middle distance right now. If I find it unsatisfying I will buy some Quoc Pham shoes and try again.

Swap the Spar for a Gentleman's Moustache Parlour, and it should help.

After a bit of wistful staring outside a range of shops I am perfectly satisfied with my current footwear. Should this change i will be first in line for the Quoc Phams.

the sad truth is that, having tried every clip and every method for keeping chain lube away from trouser legs, the rolling up of the trouser leg is the solution that works best

however, facial hair is a blight on society, make no mistake 🙂

It's all very well wearing nice clothes to cycle and work in...unless you live in a hilly place, then the last thing I'd want it to be sweating buckets inside a tweed blazer before festering in it in an office for the next 8 hrs!

erm I can walk across the city in a 3 piece and armed with a brolly aslong as it's not the middle of a thunderstorm I'll be reet. Ride a bike on even slightly damp roads and you'll get to your destination with a grey/black splatter strip up your front and back.

and don't start on mudguards, they won't protect you from light rain and none of the beardy macaxerson brothers on jamie's video were sporting guards on their achingly hipster steeds anyway.

I'm not their target audience so obviously I think they are overpriced and silly, but a summer like we've just had they'll be just the job (if you like the style), but they will need to borrow altura man's jacket when the inevitable rain clouds appear.

Mudguards protect against the stripe, so then if it's light rain you will be fine.

I like the Ted Baker stuff, it looks good and there is nothing wrong with looking smart and riding to work. None of the models in the video had helmets though so if Ted pulls his finger out and designs a nice tweed number he would make a killing!

molgrips how many hipsters* use guards? Nah it's the practical dweebs like myself who use guards and we're already clothed in tragic but practical lycra 🙂

*presuming that's who this stuff is aimed at

If it's as durable, smell-resistant, comfortable, and sweat-wicking as my old merino top at the same price, then they might be on to a winner 😀

In reality though wearing all that stuff and riding around on a bike like that is still more admirable than all the fat biffers driving round in their status-symbol BMWs and Audis.

Main thing I saw wrong was he had those stupid narrow handlebars - really not a good idea for riding in the city...

It crosses fashion with biking, usually its practicality not making a fashion statement whilst riding on your bike. Surely that pocket with the handkerchief would be more suited to a multi tool how you gonna fix your bike with a hankie...

Eh? Don't all suit jackets have that hankie thing? (or have I been wearing cycling specific suits all these years?)

Love the careful shot of the back wheel: "oh yes...you ride a fixie"
