Planning a charity ride for later in the year. would like to have a real time tracking thing set up on website. I've looked at spot tracker and they are very expensive for something that I'd not use very often.
Are there any other real time tracking systems out there? Anything that uses a smartphone?
Loads on smartphones Google Latitude, Endomndo does I bet there are specific apps to.

Can these be viewable from elsewhere though? I ask, as my Bro-in-Law is doing the London Marathon this year and wants us to be able to see his progress as he runs, so we can scoot around the tube and cheer him on at various points.
I suggested Google Latitude, but it only seems to update when you 'check in'. I can't see a real time blip of him moving around, wherever he is.
Am I doing it wrong?
Sorry for the hijack, but I thought it was still on topic.
I looked around for various Android ones and they all seemed to be targeted at the 'do you know what your kids are up to' market.
thanks. will check out google latitude. didn't realise they did one.
edit: to above - yeah i need a real time blip thing as well. so would be interested to know...

If not try http://mytracks.appspot.com/
Assuming you have access to an android phone; simply enable latitude then log on to the latitude web site and in the apps tab at the bottom enable 'Google Public Location Badge' then just copy and paste the link into a web page somewhere (even just a page on your local pc is fine)
Motion X GPD for the iPhone (and maybe other devices) has an "Auto Live Updates" feature that can email multiple recipients of your position and also/instead update Facebook/Twitter or a map. I use it to email the missus when I'm riding by myself and can't be bothered to explain where I'm going. Obviously you need a 3G signal to send the updates and I'd strongly recommend a piggy-back battery too.
