OK, so I was unlucky enough to break my back in 4 places a few weeks ago - part of my recovery plan was to sell my complete stable of bikes (which was pretty extensive tbf) and buy one, "do-it-all" steed and just enjoy riding when I get back to it.....however, I've ended up not quite doing that and getting a bit carried away with re-shuffling things, leading to an interesting overlap in available bikes, and a challenge with what to do with another!
I've acquired a very nice 29er carbon hardtail (Santa Cruz Highball) which sits nicely alongside my existing Cannondale carbon hardtail....mmmm, how do I justify that? Well, the SC is going to be "fast, dry" best bike, and the Cannondale "muddy, grippy tyred" winter bike.....yes, I know I have very much a first world problem there to decide which bike to use every time I venture into the garage.
Than I have my Nicolai Helius CC (Rohloff hub gear) - I've had it up for sale for a bit but to be honest, every time I walk past it I think "I know I'll feel bad when that's gone". So, it's staying.
But what am I going to use it for?
I've just shoved some On One funny bars on it (OG V2's - not shown in the pic) thinking it might be a nice bike to get my riding started on again (the position might just help my back) & the rear suspension is set to the shortest (88mm) travel setting so I know it rides/climbs lovely with that set-up. So now I'm thinking it'll morph into some sort of gravel/bike-packing setup if I stick some 2" Conti X-Kings on it that I've still got lying around.....
At the minute, I suppose it's the "just for riding about" bike -
Given that I've not got much else to do at the moment, other than Zoom meetings and nursing a very achy back - help me with this question - what would you do with such a beast?
Currently the bike I like riding the least out of all my good ones is my favourite from last year.
All bikes have a time and a place, just wait til it comes around again.
