My mrs wants a bike she can use to go to shops/gym/Wild swimming that isn't one of our expensive ones. One we can fit a big D lock on, cheap so it doesn't matter if it gets nicked

She feels happier on big tyres, but wants a more upright position for riding doing errands and just to jump on and go. Not drop bars either, I'd prefer disc brakes and it's flat so even a SS would work.

I know it's a tough one, but any ideas at all?

Whatever you can on Facebook Marketplace. Partially wrap it in some shoddy electrical tape.

Someone posted this Vitus on the PSA thread. Add mudguards and rack for town perfection?

The 7 speed derailleur version is 40 quid cheaper or there's a SS if that appeals.

Yeah, I was looking for something the other week. Loads of choice of 26inch wheel MTB's on Facebook or eBay, stick some old risers on if they're a bit low at the front.

Or get yourself to a local pre-loved shop like Dieter's. In fact, go to Happy Days if you're anywhere Sowerby Bridge, a terrific Aladdin's cave. https://www.visitcalderdale.com/see-and-do/services-and-information/happydays-cycles/

edit - that Vitus is hard to look past though, especially the single speed at two hundred quid!
