I've been using Dhb shorts for road rides up until now. Including 100 mile plus routes. However I am thinking of treating myself to some premium shorts, probably Rapha as they come with a money back guarantee.

Are the classic shorts worth the £160? Will I notice a difference in comfort? I have read a few blogs and some people seem to think the cost is well worth it for Assos or Rapha. Or do I just keep using wiggle/decathlon?

I would say a definite yes, but as Rapha have sales as frequently as dfs I'd wait until then.

Think Rachael Riley caressing your nethers.

Yes, and the sales frequently knock only 20% off bibs.

Code "THANK-YOU-2017" should get you 25% off - cushion the blow a little.

I honestly find my top end dhb shorts better than the top end assos ones I got in a sale. Was a bit disappointed.

i have a set of Cores and not overly impressed by the pad, don't like the seam down the middle, other than that they are fine. I believe the pad is the same but could be wrong.

Yes.

Went from DHB ASV to Rapha Brevet shorts and the Raphas are an improvement in comfort and they have taken a lot longer to show wear.

As above, discount code makes it a no brainer.

I've had a pair for 5 years at least - even get used mostly on the turbo. Still in decent nick.

I bought a pair of the core bibs recently - they're OK but not as good as the classics (pad has weird fold up your crack, material not as stretchy, silicon grippers not as nice). Cheaper though.

The Assos S7 uno shorts are my go to shorts for long rides. I have castelli, Rapha and Btwin shorts which are good but nothing on the Assos.

Prefer Castelli pad. From someone who has spent way, way too much money on Rapha in the last couple of years.

Looks like it is too late but I have tried Rapha Core and Giordana and prefer the Giordana. Similarly priced though. The Rapha ones do look better though.

Love my core bibs and my lightweight bibs, pad is as comfortable as my top end castellis and straps and leg grippers are better. I picked both up at sale prices that made them very reasonable compared to other brands

I bought two pairs of the proteam in the sales, along with some roubaix 3/4. Whilst the quality is excellent, the sizing is off and the medium 3/4s are perfect, but the proteam are too large and would have been better in small.

I'd buy the core though next time there is a sale.

So it's not just me that feels like they give a bit of a wedgie then?

Bought their core shorts. Got them for £80 because of a survey thing they were doing. Mega pleased with them. Better than sportful r&d shorts and dhb asv shorts. Skeptical of the pad when I received them because of stitching down the middle and they felt a bit wedgie but no, they are mega comfy riding. The straps are good as well although could be wider like the sportful r&d shorts.

Rapha take online codes in store don't they?

May pop in an grab another pair of core bibs, plus compare them to the more expensive ones...

I'm sure Rapha use the same chamois in the core shorts as the classic shorts.

Personally I find Rapha the comfiest stuff around, especially their shorts but, in general, all their stuff is just really well made. Plus the sizing actually makes sense.

Popped into Rapha earlier, they've all got seems down the middle of the pad?!

I can't see any difference between the core and the more expensive ones bar the logo and the material is slightly different.

Do you mean the pad is two halves with a seam in the middle or the outer short panels are seamed in the middle with the pad on top. I can't imagine why it would be the first option. Second option is quite common, i.e. assos do it.

Not sure to be honest, the pad appears to be one piece with a channel through the middle, i think the issue is the lycra seam rather than the pad seam, maybe flatloc stiching would help???. After 160k of a 200k i fund the pad very uncomfortable.

Sorry my comment was aimed at mrmo.

The pad is in two halves with the stitching on the outside, all the Rapha shorts I picked up today were like that?

Having tried many of the premium brand bibs I'm very happy with RedWhite.cc because they are by far the most comfy I've used.

This years highland trail 550 was 4 days of riding. Consisting of 16, 22, 23, 22 hours. Surprisingly comfy throughout.

Ultimately its a personal thing. Bibs, saddle and your body shape all interact differently and will determine what's the 'best'
