We have a border collie trail dog which we would like to take bike touring - say a tour of arran / skye / iceland and its too much expect it to cope with 50/100 miles a day - day in / out... thinking of using as / when the dog tires...
I thought about a child trailer and converting to take a hound and I have seen a variety of dog trailers on line for dogs - Burley do one... anyone actually used them or had one in a shop to view / comment on? I own a bob trailer and I know the joy of hauling weight...
just thinking as it would open up different possibilities and prevent dog / owner seperation anxiety and be cheaper than kennels!!
This is mine, (used for getting the dog to work when her usual lift is unavailable)
It was cheap off ebay about 4 years ago, but has done a good job and lasted fairly well. If I get a new one I will be looking for one with a seatpost mount rather than chainstay as it means it will then fit bikes with disc brakes which that trailer doesnt. I added plastic to the front mesh panel to keep rain/spray out.
Dog will soon get fit especially if you pedal hard enough
Sorry, thinking of the same thing for my dog, and googling for trailers came up with that image which I think is bonkers, hence the post.
Keyses2 is that a staffie? Thinking of the same set up for mine to get to nice places to walk without driving. How does the dog get on with it?
Yeah, tis a Staffie. She used to (and still does at times) run alongside the bike fine but is getting old so quite likes going in the trailer. There was some grumbling the first couple of times she went in it but now she's quite happy, she has a bed and blanket in it which she scrabbles up till its comfy and then lies in there quite happily.
