Ton - where do you live?

I could do one for you in Aberystwyth (at the University) - maybe combine it with a visit to a Welsh trail centre and/or cake trip.

Not really what a ramp test is all about. I don't think estimating your threshold power will tell you what is safe from a health viewpoint. Sounds like you need professional medical advice, possibly with a sports background, not remote diagnosis by the STW medical experts.

Ramp tests are great (and painful) but pointless unless you repeat them every so often (8-12 weeks).
If you purely want to find out your HR zones and Max HR, then a Max HR test is all you need.

If you are serious about training and willing to repeat then testing is worthwhile, especially if you have gas analysis. I can highly recommend LabMonkey and the facilities there are at Aber.

Nearest sports science place like a uni, or maybe a decent club.

You know what a ramp test is? Most folk will have bought a HRM long before doing one.

Ramp tests are great for cardiac rehab.

Ton - does your local hospital/clinic/council gym not have cardiac rehab classes that might be able to put you on the right road with regarding testing?

Ton - you might be best asking for a 'Bruce Protocol' at the cardiac rehab department - it is a submaximal test and so a little less 'risky' than a full VO2max test. If you want to talk a bit more about this drop me an email - I have experience of working with cardiac rehab patients who want to return to exercise/cycling.
