[Closed] Racer brake / gear levers with v-brakes

[#4460211]

I'm in the process of doing a custom build making a road bike from a mtb frame and have come across a few issues. I've bought some Paul motolite v-brakes (long pull) which will sort out the extra distance having 28" wheels but I want to have drop down bars. I'm using 2 / 9 for the gearing but am unable to find some all-in-1 brake & gear levers that will accomodate v-brakes. I know I could change to canti brakes but I dont want those weighty boss adaptors. I've also seen some 'Estate Agent Pulleys' but they just look pure ugly. Surely they must sell some that are compatible. Any help appreciated. Cheers

don't think so, it's either canti's, mini-v's or the travel agent things or separate brake and gear levers ๐Ÿ™

you could use cable disks if there's disk tabs?

Travel agents I think you mean ๐Ÿ™‚

I had them on my CX bike. they worked perfectly. I even quite liked the way they looked.

Anyway, if they really are too 'ugly' you can get mini v-brakes that work with road levers.

Never come across any v-brake friendly STI, brifters or Ergo brake/gear levers.

Tektro and Dia-Compe do some v-brake friendly brake levers which you could use bar end gear shifters with or you could look at mini-v-brakes instead of the motolites......

I've looked into this as I was going to do something similar but have decided to stay on 26" wheels and use an alternative bar to avoid all of the issues with the brakes and drop-bars.

If you have disc mounts there are road friendly disc brakes out there.......

The newest (3500) Sora STIs are supposed to fix this, a cam/lever inside the body adjusts whether it pulls for road or V-brakes.

Make sure you like the thumb shifter thing on Sora before commiting.

The 2013 Sora STIs have the paddle shifter thing, same as the more expensive models.

They don't. That's the cable entry point cum barrel adjuster

Release paddle is there

Yup, that's what I meant before I went and did some work. Are you sure it wouldn't just be easier and maybe cheaper to start with a road/hybrid frame?

He probably means 700c. Ze Garmans call them 28"...

I recently did this and bought adapters to move the canti studs up 31mm. However, the dual purpose brifters sound a more elegant solution especially if you have to buy levers anyway.

These should be suitable shouldn't they although it says they're short pull. On other websites it says they're short & long pull
