My RF Turbine R dropper post is getting a bit sticky and reluctant to return. Cables are all ok so I assume it’s the main seal at the seatclamp end needing some lube
Any suggestions for how to remove it for a quick clean up?
Note this is a Turbine R, which is based on the Fox Transfer design, not the original god awful Turbine which was based on the 9point8 mechanical brake design
Not much point paying for a service, as I’d rather buy one of the cheapo posts new.
Pump it up first. It just might be low on pressure.
Then do a service. I don't know about the turbine one, but most are fairly simple to strip down, clean, regrease and reassemble. Well so far one up, brand x and ks levs have been simple enough.
It’s a pre-filled piston with nitrogen at 400psi. Not something I want to mess with and no way to top up
The Fox Transfer requires some specific tools so I want to know what I’m doing before I start
Ah, rubbish. Send-off job then. Or any of the cheap and easy to home service droppers instead.
Partial success
It’s very similar to a Transfer (to the point it has the Fox logo on it!)
I managed to get to the stage in the service guide where the large threaded bolt is used to push the main shaft seal out. Didn’t have the rod and seal won’t budge
Plenty of gunk inside the outer post though so I cleaned all that off/out, sprayed a bit of silicone spray and put 5cc of fork lowers lube in for good measure. Put it all back together again and it’s much better!
