Had an irritating problem where the rear mech would only shift up cleanly from 11t sprocket to 12t about half the time, all other shifts were fine in both big and small rings.
Tried indexing to no avail so disconnected cable from rear mech to give me some slack to clean and lube it, while it was disconnected I was faffing about with the front shifter and clicked the big lever to max (no force involved), put it all back together and now the shifter doesn't work, I can move the small lever fully over but it does nothing and the big lever won't move at all and I don't want to force it.
Have I wrecked the front shifter? Can't see how and I can find no mention of this particular issue anywhere.
Has the cable popped out of the guide in the shifter?
Had another look and the cable was sitting ok in the shifter, don't know why but I rolled the hood back into its correct position and everything worked fine! Rolled it back again to expose the internals and the issue returned, so it seems that unless the hood is in place the small lever doesn't function properly - bizarre.
Ah, you didn't mention that you'd pulled the hood back. It needs to be in position or completely off for the shifter to work.
I've had this: I don't understand why the hood has to be in place, but it does.
Sorry SB, didn't mention it as I didn't think the position of a rubber cover was relevant. Obviously a lot more to it than I thought.
Cheers
