Hive mind, I have a questions.

I'm looking at getting a privateer 161. If the p2 was a 275 it would be a n brainer what size to get (I'm 170cm tall) Though I'm going to do some races, I'd prefer a 27.5 bike.

ANYWAY - Privateer say not to mullet their bikes, but I was wondering what the effect would be based on their geometry if I put a 27.5 on the back of their P2?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated? Geometry on their site.

Cheers

You're going to drop a fair bit off the BB and make the head angle slacker. I don't think it would work, but you might like it.

If you want a 27.5 frame just buy one - there are some deals on 2019 Nukeproof Mega frames and they're not much different for 2020.

I was close to getting a mega, but I order the geometry on the privateer. Thanks for the info, that's what they say, was just wondering how much it would affect it, I guess too much to be worth the risk. Cheers

You're dropping the back wheel about 19mm. That will take a degree or more off seat and head angle and shorten the reach a touch. Biggest issue is how much it drops the BB, could be about 10mm which would be significant, esp on a bike that's probably low to begin with.

OK, I apologise if I'm banging on about this too much.

So all above makes perfect sense, thanks for clarifying - buuuut what about if I'm ordering the P1 which is a 27.5 frame.

Would putting a 29 upfront have the same affect to the BB? It would slacken the head angle a bit / increase the stack / shorten reach?

Cheers

Putting a 29” up front will have twice the effect on the angles unless you decrease the fork travel - you’ll gain height from the bigger wheel and the extra A2C length.

If you have set your heart on a privateer you could always use offset bushes to help correct the geo at least some of the way.

I'd also be looking at other bike options, maybe transition or airdrop if you like the look of the privateer.

Cheers guys. I'll have a look at that site. I'm actually moving from a patrol, so fancy something different. The RAaw Madonna would have been an option if it came in 27.5 (and was cheaper) I looked at airdrop, close too, but not quite as exciting geo. Cheers
