A request to the many Quantocks locals; we are heading down there for a bit of half term, probably to the north between the hills and the sea, and we are looking for some riding that all 4 of the family can do together. 9yo will happily throw himself at most things, but has a bike geared for Swinley, i.e. no super low spinning gear, and Mrs downshift and 14yo are up to a gentle bimble on a Swinley blue but nothing more. Not having ridden in the area before, what is the main ridge of the hills like, is there anywhere else we should be looking at, and what are conditions like at the moment?
Oh, and if I get a morning out by myself then where to head for?
Thanks all.
Main ridge line is dead simple to navigate, rolling gradients and great views. Drains really well too.
It's exposed to the wind/weather though.
However, getting to the ridge line is likely to involve walking and tantrums.
There are plenty of places to park up near the top of the ridge to avoid the worst of the climbs.
Could even take in one of the descents down to a pub/cafe and then spin back to get the car whilst they enjoy tea&cake?

maybe if you park at holford or crowcombe village?
parking available on the ridge at either end at lydeard hill or staple plain or in the middle at crowcombe gate.
Did this Quantocks ride with 7 to 10 yr olds last summer. Not all accomplished bikers, but the 7yr old was.

The climb is quite a challenge (for me) and involved walking, the descent could also be considered challenging for kids. But they all managed the route, admittedly in relatively dry conditions.
Thanks for all the gen folks.
