Any thoughts on these - I know ST have tested both but not side by side unfortunately
look pretty similar - Pyga bit shorter rear travel but can run a 140mm fork (I checked this with Pyga)

The Rip 9 will take a 140mm fork too.
I have these two on my aluminium shortlist as well, i think the pyga looks nicer IMO.

My LBS is running a demo day for Pyga if you fancy trying one out, it's in the Forest of Dean next month.

I've got a Pyga though have not ride the Niner so can't compare
I did test ride a Cube, Whyte T129, Yeti SB??, Orange Gyro though
Mine is set up with Revelation forks set at 130mm, XT gears and brakes and Arch ex wheels
Really nice bike up and down and corners especially well

Have you done a search on here? Alex has a oneten and has written some posts. I get the impression he likes it very much.
I've got the 120 and adore the way it rides, everything from leafy Hants to French Alps. I can't comment on the Niner, sorry.

And here he is 🙂 I run mine with 140mm fork. I do keep thinking about dropping it to 130 or 120 but the bike handles so well with the longer fork, I never get around to it.
I think I've said before it's a great 'all rounder'. And that's a good thing, it rewards a bit of effort climbing as it's a) pretty stiff and b) gets great traction on techy climbs. In contouring singletrack once it's up to speed it'll maintain it as long as you're brave in the corners. In the FoD it'll whip through the trees with the best of them, never feels big or clumsy. Downhill, it has that 29er 'laugh at big rocks' things going on although I'm hankering after a burlier fork than the Rev that's on there. You never feel short of 'only' 110mm of rear travel and it's quite hard to get all that.
Downsides? in really tight stuff it feels a bit cumbersome, the paint is lovely but you'll need to go mad with helitape to keep it that way, it does 'sit' a bit in corners with the monach shock but I'm not good enough to really care.
Mine's done about 700k since July. Ridden all around FoD/Yat/Malverns/Wales/Quantocks etc and at no point have I wanted a different bike. Off to Spain in December and it'll be doing the PPDS next year (with some bigger brakes).
I did see the 650b (short travel one, there's a new 140mm 650b just out...hmmmm) at the FoD last week and I'd love to ride that to try them back to back. But the 29-10 just fits me really well and gives me a big grin everytime I ride it. I think it's one of the better looking 29ers FS as well (still the competition isn't that stiff!)

That build is just under 30lbs if you care about such things.

Oh last thing, the tyre clearance isn't stellar. Mine has the 'new' stays so it'll take a Hans D 2.35 but I wouldn't run that in lots of mud. Have a Nobbly Nic 2.2 and there's loads of space.

Really like it, as Alex says - great all rounder. Running mine w/ 120mm Fox on front. But it would be interesting to run a 140mm fork (if only BOS did a 29er Deville).
Alex.I know you have a rocket as well. How does it compare to the pyga?
I'm realizing that I feel too big for 26ers and am seriously thinking of chopping in my rocket against a oneten or something similar.
I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Hi Lex. Sorry missed the post. I *did* have a rocket, I don't anymore. Probably tells you the story! The rocket was brilliant in the alps, but I couldn't do it justice here. I was never really brave enough to get it to a speed where it really shone. I liked it (and I love my Solaris, I think Cy makes great bikes) but I never felt I was doing it justice.
The Pyga climbs a lot better (even tho it's only a couple of lbs lighter) and descends 95% of the time at the same speed (the high water mark clearly being the rider). I took the Pyga to some rocky madness in wales, a long ride through the quantocks and another long one to Long Mynd and then rode the rocket again. I decided I didn't need both.
The fella (olly) who bought my rocket has clearly been riding it properly from the txts/emails I've had! So a happy ending all round really.

So you're in a similar situation to me. I just had to be honest with myself about the kind of riding I'm doing and what bike would suit that best. Having said that, I can't see any reason why the Pyga can't go to the alps next year for the PPDS. Bigger brakes and we're good to go 🙂

Good to hear your thoughts and now might be the time to offload the rocket for similar reasons to you, they're very thin on the ground as well which won't hurt the second hand value.

You poor bugger 🙂 I didn't have any trouble selling my rocket. Had quite a lot of enquiries afterwards as well.
