That would be me. Yeah he speaks a LOT of sense and I'm glad he's showing up on a lot of these programmes.
Then again they haven't stopped me for riding on the pavement.
That's an offence - but officers are encouraged to use discretion, especially if you are riding sensibly and the other option is a dangerous road.
He told me he was politely explaining why he pulled the driver over and they just didn't understand why endangering another persons life just because they were on a bike wasn't ok. They started arguing with him to the point that he'd had enough, tore them a new one and gave them a bunch of tickets.
My buddy is really chilled out so to get him to that stage the driver must have been a proper d!ck
He only pulled them over as he's a cyclist himself, that seems to be the rule of thumb in his nick. They've all covered RTA's where cyclists have been hit unfortunatley

Not necessarily, so many pavements are now dual use. I can pretty much cycle to work, from home, on pavements designated for cycle and pedestrian use. However, I use the road as it's quicker.
It seems that if there isn't a camera system for a particular offense then you are rarely gonna get pulled over.
Hence the rise of the helmetcam cyclist. Seems to have been a few successful prosecutions now based on helmetcam footage. And of course, standard YouTube/social-media vengeance too 😀

Almost all of my commute is on shared-use paths and pavements. (Naturally there are no signs to indicate where the shared-use bit stops)
Apparently the legal route is to divert through an underpass, in the opposite direction that I want to go, couple of road crossings then down a busy city centre road, through a busy pedestrian area, then under another underpass. Utterly barking.
I have absolutely no intent to adjust my illegal route, along a deserted pavement by some empty waste ground and I don't think any policeman will give me any stick for it either.
Yeah, it helps. Sad it needs to be done but everyone seems to react more when caught by technology. Even as someone who designs stuff for traffic monitoring systems, I would much rather see more human based systems (ie police) out there.

That's not so encouraging 🙁 I guess if you don't cycle you never really realise how vulnerable we all are. Same for police officers.

The levels of hatred and down right stupidity are quite staggering - it's really worrying that some of these people are allowed a driving license.
what surprises me is how many young(ish) women are on there.. maybe i'm naive but i expect a certain sort of [i]bloke[/i] to run me over.

And if he did the opposite it would have been a failry bland one sided peice (plus the generic tax/insurance thing thrown in) likely with few people to call in?
There must be a team (ie not him) planning the subjects and the argument to come from which will get plenty of people to call in to get a range of viewpoints on which to draw?
the presenter is not the problem, i had a listen to that bit on iplayer, problem is the seriously bad attitude among a significant minority of UK drivers.. it's not just driving either, it's a general CGAF for strangers?

On my commute home I make an illegal right turn into a one-way street (me going the wrong way down it). It opens oput intoa 2-lane road very shortly after that junction, there's maybe only 20yds were I'm illegal.
Last time I did that, a police car stopped and let me through. 🙂
I can't read that cyclehatred thing and I didn't bother listening to Jeremy Vine either, it just gets me too wound up. I know exactly what's being said and the level of stupidity and bigotry is really alarming.
My place of work has Radio 2 on permanently. The production area is open plan but we've removed the speakers from our area. We can still hear it at a low level but I can't remember the last time I heard Jeremy Vines voice. It's like I've evolved a poisonous **** aural filter 🙂
