I run a Thomson layback post. Does anyone know how the Pure seatpost might compare in terms of seat position ? The seat clamp on the Pure looks to be positioned quite far back but I can't see on the site any details of angle variation.

I have both and the layback is pretty much the same.

Cheers Guido. Do you have the remote or lever model ? If the lever, have you encountered any snaggage on the shorts ?

Same as Guido. Impressed with remote version apart from remote control...bar clamp busted during installation and was replaced very promptly by pure but is very flimsy. Got a RS poploc remote to replace it with when(if) the replacement busts.

I got the remote version and after some teething troubles all is well. The trick is to service them every couple of rides (or every ride if wet). it only takes 5 mins max and full instructions are in the box.
pack it with grease!!
the main problem is that the cable is held on by a tiny screw so if you dont get the cable 'freeflowing' it pulls out.
but after experimentation i have sorted this out.
they are good- i would not like to ride without it now.

I've got the lever version - no snagging on shorts. I love it, apart from it sometimes seems to slip down slightly. I haven't serviced it yet though - lost the instructions!

Cheap copy of a decent product imported by "you know who"

Website and product designed to cash in on the good name of too pure

So of the few folk that answered that have got them have had broken clamps, repeated maintenance, cable clamp pulling out. Bodes well for longevity does it not.

Caveat emptor

Could anyone please remind me of the service instructions, is it just to take it apart, clean it and regrease it?

Snapped the remote clamp on mine to but it was replaced FOC in a couple of days (apparently it's a known issue and they have beefed up clamps on the replacement levers). It was fiddly to set up (as in it didn't work when following the instructions regarding cable tension), a bit of trial and error though and it was sorted.
Works well out on the trails, not serviced mine yet but been using a mud guard over the winter so it's not had too rough a time.
In hindsight though I'd have bought the non-remote version, it might be marginally less convenient to operate but a lot less fiddly to set up and no hassles with running more cables on the bike.

Aye although Teejay is like a dog with a bone regarding anything to do with a certain Lincolnshire based importer of generic parts brought from a Taiwanese parts catalogue it can't be denied that paying more than say, an importer in a fellow European state just across the channel, for an adjustable seatpost with design issues is a little daft. Buy from the Frenchies, at least if you get equally poor service then they'll have lived up to the stereotype but you'll be less out of pocket for the pleasure.

Nice Juan, very nice. You obviously don't understand the word 'stereotype', nor the fact many 'little Englanders' base their opinions on such stereotypes, which unfortunately with your knuckle-scraping comment you are just supporting. Tounge in cheek comments are often difficult to put across in the written word but I don't think it was so badly put this time, maybe just poorly understood by a certain individual.

I do love the 'tongue in the cheek excuse' that is very original

What about the lack of understanding 'stereotype' bit Juan? It ok, I accept you apology btw. English is a lingustic minefield and I know it isn't you first language so I'm not going to judge you or make an issue of your mis-directed comment.

There are plenty that have failed and i as usual have one / had one. After 6 weeks it been supposedly sent back to Taiwan. Mine developed play resulting in the saddle moving side to side - something that according to the design of the post can't happen. Would rather have my money back....
