Top tip, make sure that when the crank bolt releases for the first time your neck isn't over the top tube. Thankfully I had a bluff on as well as a high neck top but it does feel like I've been punched in the throat!
You live, and you learn. If you don't live you don't learn. Swallowing a slightly painful at the moment!
Dub cranks? If you know, you know.
Indeed 🙂 it still hurts
You don't get these problems with a nice cotter pin, you know!

No but the nasty things used to pull through the cranks if you rode hard enough.
I have a massive breaker bar for removing dub cranks. Rarely do they go back on, if it's one of my bikes.

Also don't lean over the saddle with your ribs on it while pulling up on the allen key, especially not on two separate occasions.

+1 (in my case it was BB removal but tip is equally valid)
I smashed my face into the top tube of an old bike getting a square taper crank off. It had brake and rear mech top tube cable routing which cut two slices into my nose and resulted in a stroll to A&E for a bit of gluing me back together.
