Apart from the fat bike one, sorry fatties. At Wiggle/CRC. Usually £75.

Been procrastinating over how to store our bikes in the garage for weeks, this made my mind up for me.

Or save yourself £48 and use these as I do for my 5 bikes

I’ve got both the steady rack and the jobsworth one. If you like wrestling a big mountain bike in and out and of the rack every single time, then the jobsworth is the one for you, no question.

if however you are attracted by the prospect of a well designed, well engineered piece of kit that allows you to effortlessly store and remove your bike each time and that swings from side to side (great when you have multiple bikes stored next to each other) then the steady rack wins hands down.

Given how often I’m removing/replacing bikes, the extra investment in the steady rack is a no brainer. In fact they’re so good I’m going to get another one and retire the jobsworth into the depths of the garage..

Yeah that was my understanding too on the hook vs fancy-rack thing. Hooks would be OK if I resign myself to being the only person that can remove or put away the bikes, but hopefully this will make it easier for the whole family to grab a bike and go for a ride 🙂

If we move house I'm definitely taking them with me though.

I don't get how they are so much better than the PX hooks. The video in the wiggle listing shows the same mounting technique I use on my px hooks with a knee under the saddle, except the px are easier as I don't have to fold/unfold. I'll stick with hooks!

Or even better, the blue Decathlon hooks that take a proper MTB tyre so no wrestling is required. Only £5 too.

Or if you don't need the swing feature then the cyclehoop drop in one is good too.
Edit - cyclehoop not velohoop. Anyway fixed steel framed vertical drop in rack.

i have used both hooks and steadyracks. Whilst the steadyrack is a far more costly option, they are an excellent bit of kit. I have 4 of them and wont ever go back to hooks.

But if you wanna go real wild, check this lot out.....

£2 hooks?
£50 racks?
£1800 stands?

Peasants.

What you need is a 6 grand carbon fibre box for your living room.

(Steadyrack user here, very happy with them)

We've got a load of those jobsworth ones at work. Piece of piss to use.

I used to have the mottez bike hooks, similar to the decathlon ones and they're also easy to use. Screw them up at different heights so some bike have back wheel on the floor and some are higher.

I now have a scaffold pole across the garage to hang some bikes off, with some in a floor rack underneath. Works a treat.

Edit: just watched the video and the steadyrack does look cool though. Still not sure I'd pay £50, but it does look useful.

The steady racks are brilliant. I have 5 bikes hung in a 2.5m section of wall. If I had a big garage with loads of space, I might not bother, but for me they're worth every penny.

They certainly know their market.

I got a load of Park Tool hooks in the SigmaSports sale for a couple of quid a pair.

Longest front Mudhuggers on my bikes - the Steadyrack bit fits between the tyre and mudguard no probs.

Steadyracks I viewed as an investment. Not planning to move house, ever, so in the overall scheme of things they're a smallish cost.

Appreciate uninterrupted views of your bike by not putting in a box.

Does anyone know if a 3 inch tyre will fit in the MTB steadyrack? Says up to 2.8" but wondering if they're being conservative

2.6 is a squeeze in the std one. I’d go for the fat one for a 3.0.

Those advocating the Jobsworth, are you using these for MTB?

I have something similar (can't remember where from) and can't fit a MTB in it. I've straightened out the hook and it's now possible to get it on, but far from easy.

Yes but rather than bend it, I took a hacksaw to the end of the hooks that hold my MTBs and trimmed off maybe 20mm. Big wheels slide in with ease after that.

No issues getting 29x2.5s in here. Could chop a bit off as described above but so far not worth the faff

Does anyone with a fat rack use a normal MTB in it? Does it wobble about?

Asking because my bike with a plus tyre up front sometimes also runs a normal tyre instead

No, but I do sometimes put my gravel bike on the MTB rack, which is kinda the same? It has a little wobble but is held firm by the bottom hook. I’ve found generally that as long as the tyre is wider than the rim, you’re fine. I have 3 MTB racks and 2 mudguard racks. The road bike isn’t great in the MTB rack but fine in the mudguard version.

I have the Fox long guard on one of the bikes and fits no bother on the standard MTB rack with a 2.5 tyre.

Same, my 25mm tyre’d road bike isn’t snug, but still stays in place fine in the MTB racks

My Karate Monkey goes in the fat rack with 27.5 x 30 or 29 x 2.4 depending on which fork and wheels are fitted, no issues at all with the narrower tyres. If running 27.5 x 3 it does struggle to go in the 'standard' steady racks we have for the other bikes.

I replaces Jobsworth hooks with steadyrack ones about a year back. Just so much easier to swing the bike close to the wall so freed up a lot of space in a smallish shed. Like OP debated for a while as they are quite spendy but they're well made and do the intended job well.

Bigger PSA. Obviously after I just bought 5 to sort out space, and very happy with them, they’re now £39.99 on sportspursuit for 5 days only.
