Depends if you're in the market for a £300 crank thats 2 years out of date?

'ish'

you do need specific tools to fit them which are costly if they don't come with it.

I remember when they were selling the XTR M960 cranksets for £120...

can you not just use a normal ht2 spanner?

Shimano's price hikes since 2009 have been swingeing, there's no way I'd buy an XTR crankset for £300 that's a generation and a bit old. And I too remember when they were knocked out for £120 and you could get XT for under £90.

Part of the reason for the hikes was the pound taking a nosedive, but that doesn't explain everything.

Walla24 - BB's are normal - the crank bolt needs a special extractor to get it off and the pre-load is supposed to have it's own tool, too (although I've found a BB spanner works ok).

Strikes me as massively expensive, the new ones cost less than that

Not what I'd call cheap.

I've already got them on two bikes, probably worth buying at that price for the spares, rings etc.

Edit: Just checked CRC prices, a set of rings is only £200
