I’m looking for something to upgrade the EXR30s on my whippet. I’m I right in thinking the elements will be too narrow? Are the alpine 30’s going to be suitable?

I love a good PSA…even if not for me.

So before pulling the trigger on what appears to be a full set of wheels for £98, my daughter has a Trek Roscoe which has the 650+ rims and tyres. Big balloon things. The fork says it’s a 29r, but do you reckon the rear would accommodate a 29r? Just for trying/spares really. WTB i29 rim maybe, and she has the 141qr boost rear axle which don’t come up very often.

Thanks

From Trek wesbite

Max tyre size Frame: 27.5x2.80" or 29x2.40"

WTB i29 rim maybe

Worth a few quid more for the Isotope rims if they still have that option?

i always chuckle to myself when i read the superlatives given by some of the “order it in a container selected from a catalogue” products selling for twice what we would sell them for. im always amazed how many of these people have never been to taiwan let alone been in the factory or had any involvement in the manufacturing/design of their “custom and ultra special” parts. I play a silly game at trade shows where i try and work out who has made something for a brand by looking for little clues like how they laser the serial number on….

Interesting insight - someone will be along with Dark Install's Fake Wheel Company video soon no doubt!

Yep - I've always thought that magazine/website reviews do us a disservice there - almost all the hubs in particular are Novatec/Bitex and it should be easy enough for a reviewer to recognise them and tell us. Generally a positive for me as I know spares will be available long after <Fake Wheel Company> has gone. Hunt and Wiggle are a particularly useful source of spares for my fleet of Novatec (/Superstar) hubs.

Great PSA really, but I won't be buying - Superstar's older offerings turned me into a Novatec shop, I like to be able to run my wheels QR/15mm/12mm which would get quite pricey with these wheels.

Thanks for this - just ordered a set of the Arch Ultras to run as 700c road/winter wheels on my 650b gravel bike.

aww nuts, hadn't clocked that DHX rims weren't tubeless ready - the page talks about not coming with rim tape or valves so you can do it to your own preference.

so... does that mean I can or can't set them up tubeless? I had the despatch note already so I hope there's a way.

Apparently I've been running my DHXs tubeless since May without knowing they aren't tubeless ready!
Did take a lot of rim tape to get a tight fit with Maxxis DHF/DHR (2.8s too) but they've been fine.

Cheers, sounds like I'll get busy with the Gorilla tape. And knowing me and my skills, a frustrating afternoon in the shed but I'll get there eventually.

Isotope wheels arrived this afternoon.

They're very nicely finished and weigh in a smidge over 2kg for the pair.

I'll probably put some lighter tyres on them and use them for my less gnarly, more pedally rides.

Will a 12 speed Shimano cassette fit on the V6 hub with the 11 speed Shimano freehub?

Thanks.

No, Shimano 12 speed is microspline.

You could use a third party 12 speed cassette which is HG fit, e.g. sunrace or SRAM 1230 (the only SRAM 12 speed cassette which would fit).

Both my sets turned up. Lovely, seem very nicely made as per previous SS wheels.

New wheels can't come quick enough... Especially after breaking a spoke on tonight's gravel/mud/leafy ride.

19mm rims when I got into mountain biking (back in 2005) was for more hardcore mountain biking. The standard rim width was 17mm, which were fine up to 2.3" tyres.

My Fulcrum wheels have an internal rim width of 19mm and they've been ideal, if a little soft in the rim.

I ordered a set of alpine trail24 27.5s.

It's just been refunded.

Out of stock maybe?

Update - boost size only remaining of this model

I have the Arc Ultra with 38c tyres and it works fine, the profile is obviously a bit lightbulb but as they're my road tyres I don't notice any squirm at the pressures I run

Anyone having issues with delivery? I ordered the Arc Ultra on Monday, got a DPD email Tuesday saying delivery on Wednesday, then nothing happened yesterday. DPD tracking showing as having not even received the parcel from SS yet.

There was a post from Neil@superstar above regarding an issue with not enough space on the DPD collection vehicle. Sounds like they've had a lot of wheels ordered! Possibly affecting collections for a couple of days I guess.

@xcpootler I got exactly the same message from DPD, arriving yesterday apparently but not collected from SS yet.

I had a reply from SS confirming that DPD are still struggling with the volume of parcels but they should be picked up today or tomorrow. 👍

I encountered the same - email notification from DPD saying delivery was due yesterday but still showing as not collected. I had also missed the post from Neil earlier in this thread (sorry!).

I had a prompt reply to my enquiry today from a helpful chap at superstar who told me the same - lots of parcels and awaiting a lorry from DPD, maybe today, maybe tomorrow.

Cheers

This deal had me pricing up a new bike build - haven’t had a bike since July, I’m such a big fan of SS wheels I was going to buy a set of V6 29ers and a 29er Jackflash from PX and get myself rolling but I can’t bring it in cheap enough to be a whim! Might keep trying because they’re sort of too good not to get a set for £120.

I'd been debating a second set of V6 road wheels for the last few days (have got some that are 2 years old) despite not really needing them.
I see they've only got the red rims left now.. . Even at that price I'm not going there!

Considering a pair of the Isotope rims on the V6 hubs. Any views on their suitability for ebike use. Mainly trail / enduro type riding. Cheers.

This is maybe the best PSA for an age on here -

I bought a (bargain, from CRC) new gravel bike a few days ago and was looking for a second set of wheels for road duties - just ordered a set of the WTB rimmed XC wheels with road adapters for £93.50 - inc free postage - absolute stonking bargain!

On top of that, I've found a source of 160mm Clarks rotors on ebay for less than a fiver each! So with some road tyres and a cassette already in the parts bin at home, I'm sorted big time - thanks OP!

I've got a pair that I haven't ridden yet (so this may be pure conjecture), but looking at the rims... I'd suggest putting some Rimpact Pro (or even Cushcore) in them if you're riding enduro stuff on an eeb.

Anyone else still waiting, I ordered a set last Monday and my tracking info says they've still not been collected by DPD.

Thanks to the OP, I ordered a set of the DHX enduro wheels on the 31st, last Monday, and still haven't received them yet.
Not worried if others are still waiting, bit worried if everyone else has been receiving theirs and it's just me.

Yeah. I ordered Tuesday or Wednesday. Tracking says still not collected. Seems like DPD didn't send the lorry to make a bigger collection.

Same boat here - ordered early last week and still showing as not collected by DPD.
Relieved to hear I'm not the only one!

I ordered a set of road wheels and a gravel set. Both on hold. The road wheels mentioned this in the listing that they were waiting on hubs so would be end of nov. Had an email the day after ordering the gravel wheels to say they had run out of QR adaptors and were expecting more in 2-3 weeks. Not too fussed given then price. Happy to wait.

I use them on my AM160. They've done a couple of uplift days fine.

The rear did detension a little but I was using a procore insert on the rear at 60psi and that can happen.

I did find on a slacker Specialized tyre it wouldn't stay on the rim without an insert but it was well used. Actually the Superstar rims I've used are definitely easier to get tyres on compared to my Stan's Flows and baggier tyres more difficult to seat.

On the flip side it's incredibly difficult to get some tyres on and off the Stans with an insert compared to Superstar rims that I have.

I’m still waiting too, I’ve had no emails or anything to tell me there’s a delay, only what I’ve read here, only correspondence I’ve had was to say my order was packed last week.

EDIT - just emailed them and they responded straight away. Having issues with DPD still, apparently if you’ve had notice they’ve been dispatched then they’ve been picked and packed, just waiting on DPD to collect.

I assumed that was the case so wasn't worried yet, but still good to know.
