My steel 456 is shaking me to pieces and I'm considering replacing it with a prophet and am hoping it would be a complete allrounder from trips to the alps to moorland slogs. Am I right? Reviews seem Good but just how good are they?
Are there any specifics to look for when buying second hand, any years to avoid or any to go for? Frames seem to vary in price so what sort of ballpark would be about right?
Yeah they are good. Can be 650b'd too.
They are short so you may need to size up.
I bought one as a stand in while my Pitch was arguing with me about having some new bearings. I think I paid £450 for an immaculate Prophet with really good Pikes. It rode well but I never thought of keeping it over the Pitch.

I too found mine short. Was lovely when pointing it downwards though.
I'd be very tempted to by another in the next size up. Not many XLs around though!
If you can track down an elusive Prophet MX with they bolt through rear end they're awesome to ride in the slacker setting. Check the Cannondale archives for the geometry and make sure they sizing is similar to what you want as I seem to remember the smalls were tiny.
And don't put a Lefty on it as they look lame (although I will admit some models performed very well).
If I were in the market I would seriously consider a pitch or an 07-09 enduro.
A mate of mine has had a load of them.
In various guises from 130mm xc thing, to the full 200mm Prophet DH.
He loves the things, and has yet to break one.
Heading to Antur saturday on the thing with some new forks to see how well it goes.
I would think it is perfect as a cheaper frame to build up.

I've tried a Trek Fuel Ex and Spec Enduro in between the three and always come back to the Prophet. I run mine with Hope bolt up rear wheels which gives some of the advantages of the MX frame.
However I also have a 456 (with lefty) that I feel is a perfect compliment to the Prophet.
agreed they size up smallish, but i love my prophet, the Prophet sl has a 190mm shock for even slacker angles, had mine down to 22-23lb , some nice variations on MTBR, ...

Had a Prophet MX for a few years and it was a great bike. One of the few bikes i've regretted sellling.
I have a prophet mx for sale 🙂 medium. Trouble is that the bikes i the uk and i am in sweden. I ride a normal prophet here a feel no need to swap bikes. Check my profile for the fs thread i posted ages ago

I love my prophet 09 US import. I'm 5,10 and a medium.
Winner of the Trans-Provence 2009 rode one to destroy everybody else...with a coil/oil rear shock 😮

I'm selling a Prophet frame in small, if that's what you're after.
I love mine, set up 140mm front and rear, layback post to give me a bit more room,awesome bike and it wont cost you a fortune to try one. got mine for £200,frame only,off here.
If anyone wants a small 2009 prophet frame, I'm in the process of cleaning mine up ready for sale.
