Decent BMX forks have built in crown races for Campag type integrated headsets.

Actually, I'm rather proud of it now. Like an errant child that has sorted themselves out.
It's been suggested I make an app based on this thread. Dunno what it would do though.

I remember chuckling when it first started, is it really five years ago?

What's a crown race by the way?

Return of the prodigal crown race in a way.

What was the question?

When you buy a new headset does it include a crown race?

POSTED 5 YEARS AGO #

To be honest it was definitely not the daftest question asked on here - bike related and a reasonable enquiry really.

Couldn't I just use a cockring?

Yes, absolutely. But not as crown race.
(Unless it was previously a spare crown race, being used as a cock ring; then, yes, yes you could).

Good to see it again, glad its not dead!

Has it really been 3 months since anyone contributed to this font of knowledge on headsets?

There must be at least 3 new standards in that time.

I'm a headset guru now, no need for this thread any more.

We should keep it going as the 'go to' resource for headset knowledge then - it's clearly been an education for you...

It's still alive!!!

I wonder if you could cross breed this thread with the remains of the picolax thread?

The thru-axle thread reminded me of this.

I've not seen the thru-axle thread.
Why on earth would a headset need an axle?

i started reading the first page and actually laughed out loud.

but i have a question, and this seems like the right place to ask: i was planning to buy a new headset, and i was just wandering...

If it didn't come with a crown race your balls would fall out.

Did it come with a baseplate for fitting to the fork too?

Is this the oldest thread on STW?

The crazy thing is that the answer is just "yes", and there was even consensus on it, which basically never happens!

I remember when this started too.

Been seeing this thread for years and just decided to see what was so stupid about the question. Can't believe it's been kept alive after 7 years. I might read page 2 in another 7 years

Bugger. I hate to undermine njee's 'consensus' but...

.
Anyone got a spare one? Must be good condition and cheaper than a new one. Email in profile.
Cheers.

I have only just seen this thread after years of perusing others.

Why I clicked on it today I have no idea.

I am glad I did.

Is the OP still around? Or is he somewhere else being stupid?

...to think I actually thought this thread contained 39 pages of extremely detailed technical headset chat.

I bought a headset which didn't include a crown race.

Ok that's not a true story but in STW tradition I wanted to put forward an opposing view.
