Just got the email re subscription

Privateer is for mountain bikers who already know the obvious; for riders who have paid their dues in sweat and dust and broken bone, and are irrevocably hooked. If you've got mountain biking and it's got you, a deep emotional connection exists that is agony to even try and explain: a permanent bond with the trails, the sounds, the fear, the great outdoors, the beads of sweat, the blood, the bruises, the beer - a bond between rider, bike and terrain that grips forever. You do not want to be told what to buy, how to ride or where to go. You much prefer to get closer to the spirit of the thing.

😕

Put me off with the beer bit. As a tee-totaller I'm obviously not part of their target market. In fact every time that MTB-ing is linked to beer it annoys me. 🙂

I think he means Privateer the mag, the mtb version of Rouleur.

A guy from Privateer took my photo at the TW, I think he was going for the mature end of the Market.

I've subscribed. Worth giving it a try I reckon, though frankly it needs to be pretty good to sustain that price.

I've signed up, and yes, I think it does mean I'm getting old. No more MBUK for me.

The mag sounds intresting, but the price puts me off a lot 🙁

I will be intrested to hear about it when the first issue is out.

Also how many issues are there going to be a year?

Did he take loads of strange close up shots by any chance? Think I got 'snapped' too

Yse he did Vdubber, no smiling, no wiping muck off, no names, no nothing, a bit like a mug shot ( or so people tell me) or more likely a study in aged has Beens for his thesis. Not you of course! Anyway, I'll be signing autographs for all my fans. So that'll be a short list. Oh, he also told me that he'd taken a pic on the way up from Dolgoch after the water crossings morning.

Not huge on the sales copy either, but the mag itself is great. Really nice balance of lovely photos, genuinely interesting stories and some cool ads 😉 No product reviews at all. Sits somewhere between The Ride and Singletrack IMO.

I'm hoping for something like DIRT but for mountain bikes. As above, you really can't lose here so subscribe away people. If you don't like it you unsub and have ga8ined a free magazine.

WHo is behind this mag then? Heard about it and im sceptical to be honest at that price, will give the first ona a go bit first ones usually take a year to compile, by which poing the second is mostly done too and by the third the sh1t has hit the fan and you get loads of spelling mistakes and **** articles like happened with dirt when that started out

I signed up for it too. Manley and Davies have a background in bike writing and it is from the Rouleur stable. I have seen a few Rouleurs, but not bought one, so expect the quality to be there. Its about 25 pints of beer, or 15 from from Mrs B's locals....

I was interested until i realised its £9 per issue!

First issue has an interview with Brant Richards! Wow, like we can't find out what Brant thinks or is doing via STW or his Twitter feed.

I'm sure they'll be some nice pics and some witty downbeat editorial but in a recession I need a heck of alot more to part with my hard earned £££.

I'm probably the target market but I'm either too tight or too cynical to pay for it. Or both! Same reason I stopped subscribing to ST magazine.

It does sound like gay pr0n, terrible name... But I'm completely uninterested in the subject matter of Rouleur and still find it a good read so I'm looking forward to this thing.

If you see the first issue, the connection between my name and gay porn is closer than you think.

I didn't know anyone had "that" photo 😳

I have had a very brief look through the first issue and it looks very good. It is more of a coffee table book than a magazine, something to keep coming back to and enjoy the photography in idle moments.

Shouldn't it be called 'Slacker' as that's what most lifestyle mtb'ers are! 😉

It's fine written down but saying 'Privateer' out loud conjures visions of Philip Marlowe wandering down a 1930's Los Angeles boulevard listening very intently.

I have subscribed though - I've heard rumours Brant's todger puts in an appearance.

Doesn't look like it's due til October now. Though somebody's already said they've seen their mate's copy. Probably got it confused with Private Eye. Or a gentlemans magazine.

i thought they said that subs copy would be out around now and shop copy would be out in October.

I'm off on my holls tomorrow before the post so I quite fancied it before then.

ah well, I can look forward to it when I get back.
