Bought a frame off Facebook yesterday with PayPal.
It is an on one fatty trail. 24 hours ago I wasn’t aware that the original frames were built incorrectly and that the cranks fouled the chain stays. These frames were recalled. It appears I have bought one of these frames.
There was no mention of this in the ad.
With more time and a big screen I have seen that the frame was advertised earlier where someone had pointed out to him that it was probably one of the dodgy frames.
It is also listed on eBay stating that the rear hub spacing is 185 mm when it should be 177 or 170 ( I’m not sure which) .
The ad just says it’s a fatty frame in new condition , which it is but it’s also a frame that will need a lot of faffing to make it usable. I had just planned to swap all the bits from my old frame to this one which I would be able to do with a non recall one.
Can I reasonably ask to send it back or have I bought what was advertised and just suck it up?
As far as I understand it, the latter I'm afraid, unless the seller specifically told you it didn't have those issues :(`

Surely if these frames were recalled, this one has been missed and so should be going back for replacement?
paypal gift? if it was normal paypal you still have buyer protection. you also have rights as a second hand buyer. ask for the money back as the frame isn't fit for purpose.

I would start by having a look at the Facebook Marketplace T&C's. Then see if Paypal can do anything.
As a private sale your rights are somewhat more limited than if bought from a commercial enterprise. Caveat emptor by and large unless there was some sort of deliberate attempt to mislead.
Fatty trail is 170mm QR rear so if using your Hope wheels (my old wheels?) should fit. Worth also checking the frame isnt out of alignment at the rear. I had one briefly and the rear wheel was 1 cm closer to one chainstay than the other, it went back.
If bought using paypal goods then just raise a paypal dispute?
Proper PayPal so not a problem there.
The seller was probably as oblivious as me when he bought it as it it NOS.
Will measure it when it arrives then have a chat and see what can be done.
Also, check the 31.6 seat tube isnt over sized. Another issue they had. Good old Planet-x QC.
Might be worth a PayPal claim. If you know it's been brought to his attention then they may side with you.
Pretty sure that there are some cranks about that will fit. Can't remember which though, sorry.
Screenshot where seller was made aware of issue. Send him screenshot and ask for explanation.
He should be prepared to send back to PX if he bought new.
They should be prepared to cover it, but don't count on them to stand behind their products obvs
He bought it privately as well. These frames are years old and as I now know end up being sold to unsuspecting buyers.
Have spoke and he seems ok , will see how it measures up.
