[#10129154]

I have a BB71 bottom bracket that has started to creak after about 100 miles. (XT boost cranks)

I'll re-grease it and see if that sorts it, carbon frame so I'll use friction paste. But if its goosed, what should I replace it with?

BB71/XT M800 what's the difference?

BB91

BB94

Hope Pressfit?

Wheels Manufacturing seem to come good with their versions and is the one that I am choosing to replace a plastic sram jobby on my rebuild coming up soon.

I use Hope ones on 3 bikes here and not a peep from them since they were fitted.

Have a look at praxis press fit bb’s you install a threaded sleeve and the thread in both bb’s. Had one on a hardtail for the last 8 months and no issues.

I’m pleased with the rotor one I’ve fitted recently.  Very nicely made and doesn’t require specialist tools to fit.

If they do one to fit your frame spec I can recommend the Token Ninja.

Alloy shell that threads together like the Hope ones but can be fitted with standard Hollowtech II tools.

No squeaks from mine so far.

Swap to a guide with a closed structure like K Edge. I have the aerocoach and it dropped four times on a 50. When I pressed it down so it was touching, no more dropping. That was on a Q ring. It flexed enough so it raised slightly at the top of the stroke. Not optimal!

Gone back to round and a FD as I need a FD adaptor to raise the mount.

Depends why it is creaking.

Thread together BBs like Hope, Wheels etc should eliminate any movement between the cups and the frame.

I would not fit a BB with carbon assembly paste personally.

Wheels manufacturing are good, two of them between the other half and I. Need tweaking a little as they bed in but after that solid.

Alternatively, a touch of threadlock in a normal Shimano BB has cured the creaking on my commencal.

I think the consensus is don't use carbon paste. Most BB manufacturers say the cups should be greased before installation, but I guess if your frame is worn and the cups are a loose fit then some Loctite 641 might help.
